Artnet is the leading online resource for the international art market. They provide a platform for galleries, auction houses, collectors, and enthusiasts to buy, sell, and research art. In March of 2022, I was hired to lead Design at Artnet— reporting directly to the CTO. We redesigned and launched Artnet's flagship product, the Artnet Price Database, which is an industry-standard tool in the art world.

Facilitating communication between international and inter-departmental teams is one of my specialities. I accomplished this by creating quick designs and recording video presentations talking through the work. This allowed stakeholders to respond when they had time rather than trying to squeeze in one more meeting.
The Price Database work was on a tight timeline. In order to gain a better understanding of the field, I immersed myself in the world of fine art auctions. I met with folks from business and data science as well as auction specialists who consult the database as part of their day-to-day work. Within a month we had the main designs ready to envision with the engineering team and we launched the beta version in just six months.

I worked closely with the engineering team as well as with business and the Chief Strategy Officer. My role also included making periodic presentations to the CEO and the rest of the company.

Unification of Navigation and Marketplace Redesign

While I continued to refine and build out the designs for the Price Database, I worked on a unification of our navigation. At the time, each vertical was siloed to its own site with individual navigation. I created different versions to fit with shifting product roadmaps.
Unification of navigation
After the main unification of nav was designed, I began working on a complete redesign of the whole the site to better integrate the robust data we had. I consulted with business, data science, and engineering to explore possibilities and designed out a new paradigm that will make it tons easier for art collectors to discover and acquire new work.

I am passionate about mentorship and empowering my teams to do their best work and during my time there I brought up a Junior UX researcher to be a UX/UI Deisgner and an important member of the team.
Also, I decided to learn Tailwindcss to better communicate with the Front-End Engineering team. It came in handy on several occasions to clarify what needed to be developed.

Tutorial I created for the product launch of the new Artnet Price Database

The variety of tasks I oversaw at Artnet included the creation of several videos-- one of which was shown at Art Cologne, an important international art fair. I had a lot of fun working with the team at Artnet and I'm really proud of all the work we created together.
